Fertility Monitoring: How Elevate Supports Your Journey
Written by Kristy Beard, MSN, APRN, FNP-C — Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Founder of Elevate Health and Wellness, serving patients across the Gulf Coast in Gautier, MS and Foley, AL.
Fertility Is a Window Into Overall Health
Fertility is not just about reproduction — it is a reflection of overall hormonal health, metabolic function, nutritional status, and systemic wellness. When a woman is struggling to conceive, it is rarely because of a single isolated factor. More often, it is the cumulative effect of hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, blood sugar dysregulation, or other systemic issues that have gone unaddressed. At Elevate Health and Wellness, Kristy Beard, MSN, APRN, FNP-C approaches fertility monitoring with this understanding at the center.
When to Consider Fertility Monitoring
The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommends that women under 35 who have been trying to conceive for 12 months without success seek evaluation. For women 35 and older, evaluation is recommended after 6 months. However, at Elevate, Kristy believes that proactive fertility baseline testing — before months of trying — can identify and address modifiable factors earlier, improving the likelihood of conception without unnecessary delays.
What Fertility Monitoring at Elevate Includes
A comprehensive fertility evaluation at Elevate begins with a detailed menstrual and reproductive history and a complete hormone panel including FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), estradiol, progesterone, AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone) for ovarian reserve assessment, testosterone, DHEA-S, and prolactin. Thyroid function is evaluated comprehensively — including TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and thyroid antibodies — because thyroid dysfunction is one of the most common and most treatable causes of ovulatory dysfunction and early pregnancy loss. Blood sugar and insulin levels are assessed because insulin resistance, particularly in patients with PCOS, significantly impairs ovulation and implantation. Nutritional status including vitamin D, B12, folate, and iron is evaluated because deficiencies in these nutrients directly affect egg quality, implantation, and early fetal development.
What Happens After Your Evaluation
Results from your fertility evaluation are reviewed in detail by Kristy during a dedicated follow-up visit. If identifiable and treatable factors are found — hormonal imbalances, thyroid disease, nutritional deficiencies, insulin resistance, or PCOS — a targeted treatment plan is developed. If findings suggest that specialist referral to a reproductive endocrinologist is indicated, Kristy coordinates that referral while continuing to manage your overall health and optimize your systemic wellness throughout the process.
