This Is Not a Diet Clinic

When patients come to Elevate Health and Wellness for their first medical weight loss consultation, many arrive expecting a quick conversation about calorie restriction or a prescription handed over after a 10-minute visit. What they find instead is something meaningfully different — a thorough clinical evaluation that treats weight as a medical issue with medical causes, not a character flaw or a simple math problem.

Kristy Beard, MSN, APRN, FNP-C approaches medical weight loss the way she approaches every clinical issue at Elevate: with comprehensive assessment, evidence-based treatment, and a commitment to finding the root causes driving each individual patient's weight challenges. This appointment is the foundation of everything that follows — and preparing for it thoughtfully will help you get the most from it.

What to Bring to Your First Consultation

Bring a list of all current medications including doses, any prior lab work or medical records from the past 12 months if available, a written summary of your weight history including previous diets or weight loss attempts and results, any information about family history of diabetes, thyroid disease, cardiovascular disease, or obesity, and any specific questions or concerns you want to make sure are addressed. You do not need to have 'tried everything' or have a certain amount of weight to lose to be a candidate for medical weight loss at Elevate — all body types and starting points are welcome.

What Happens During the Consultation

Your consultation with Kristy begins with a detailed health history covering your weight timeline, your dietary patterns and physical activity, your sleep quality, your stress levels and mental health, your medication history, and your hormonal and reproductive history if relevant. She will perform or order a comprehensive weight loss lab panel to assess thyroid function, hormone levels, blood sugar and insulin sensitivity, inflammatory markers, and metabolic health. Vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and BMI are recorded. Together, you and Kristy discuss the findings, your goals, and the treatment options that make the most clinical sense for your specific situation.

What Treatment Options May Be Discussed

Treatment options at Elevate for medical weight loss may include GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy, MIC and B12 injections, nutritional counseling and dietary strategy, exercise guidance, hormone optimization if imbalances are identified, and a structured monitoring plan with regular follow-up visits and repeat lab work. The specific recommendations depend entirely on what your evaluation reveals — not on a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Insurance and Self-Pay Options

Elevate accepts most major insurance plans and Medicaid for the consultation visit and lab work. Coverage for specific weight loss medications varies by insurance plan and may require prior authorization. Cash-pay options are available for patients whose insurance does not cover specific treatments. Kristy's team will help you understand what is covered before you leave your first appointment.
