Why Annual Lab Work Is Essential

Many of the most serious chronic conditions affecting Gulf Coast residents — type 2 diabetes, thyroid disease, cardiovascular disease, hormone imbalances, and kidney dysfunction — develop silently over years before symptoms appear. Annual blood panels give your provider a window into what's happening inside your body long before those conditions become crises.

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

The CBC measures your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It screens for anemia — extremely common in women with heavy menstrual cycles or nutritional deficiencies — as well as infection, immune system disorders, and clotting abnormalities.

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

The CMP evaluates 14 markers related to kidney function, liver health, blood sugar, and electrolyte balance. This includes glucose, creatinine, BUN, sodium, potassium, calcium, and liver enzymes — telling us how well your major organs are functioning right now.

Lipid Panel

Your lipid panel measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. The CDC estimates that nearly 94 million American adults have suboptimal cholesterol levels — most without any symptoms at all. Early detection allows for early intervention.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most underdiagnosed conditions in women. TSH screening identifies both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism early, when treatment is most effective and least disruptive to your daily life.

HbA1c

HbA1c measures your average blood sugar over the past two to three months. The CDC estimates that 96 million Americans have prediabetes — and more than 80% don't know it. Annual HbA1c screening is one of the most impactful preventive tests available.
