What Is Diagnostic Ultrasound?

Diagnostic ultrasound — also called sonography — is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of structures inside the body. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound uses no ionizing radiation, making it one of the safest imaging tools available for patients of all ages, including pregnant women and newborns.

According to the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), ultrasound has been used safely in clinical medicine for over 50 years and remains the imaging modality of choice for a broad range of diagnostic applications.

What Can Diagnostic Ultrasound Evaluate?

At Elevate Health and Wellness, we use diagnostic ultrasound to evaluate early pregnancy and fetal development, vascular health including carotid arteries and peripheral vessels, abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, and spleen, thyroid and lymph nodes, pelvic structures including the uterus and ovaries, and breast tissue for screening purposes.

Why In-Clinic Ultrasound Changes Everything

For Gulf Coast patients, accessing diagnostic imaging has historically meant a referral, a wait, and a separate appointment at a hospital or imaging center. At Elevate, we bring that capability directly into the clinic. Faster answers, less inconvenience, and a provider who is right there with you to explain what the images show — in plain language, the same day.

Ultrasound Services Available at Elevate

We offer early pregnancy confirmation ultrasound, elective 3D and 4D ultrasound for expectant families, women's comprehensive ultrasound packages, vascular screening ultrasound, and diagnostic abdominal ultrasound. Each study is integrated directly into your clinical care plan by Kristy Beard, MSN, APRN, FNP-C.
