What Is a Nurse Practitioner?

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds a master's or doctoral degree in nursing and is board-certified to provide primary care across the full lifespan. Nurse practitioners are licensed to diagnose illness, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
